I will be running in my undies again this February so kids like Jack Burke can grow up happy and healthy! My kids will be happy to help decorate Rae Ann and I for the run. We are looking forward to a great day of fund raising with lots of our friends and neighbors!
Meet Superman Jack Burke!
We have been lucky enough to get to know Jack and his wonderful family over the last 5 years. He is a sharp dressing, creative, resilient 12-year-old super hero. He LOVES dressing up, putting on a great haunted house for Halloween, his family and playing with all his buddies (oh and EVERY sport and sports team from MASS!). But Jack has something he hates too - he hates Neurofibromatosis - and we're on a mission to help him find a cure!
Jack’s parents had no idea what NF was until his doctor suspected he might have it due to the amount and location of pigmented spots on his body called café-au-lait spots. He was just 1 year old at that time.
Jack-o was officially diagnosed with NF in January 2009 at the age of 2. Upon having a follow up MRI, his family was devastated to learn that he had a type of brain tumor called an optic nerve glioma (a tumor on the nerve that runs from the eye to the brain). More recently, it was discovered that she also has a plexiform neurofibroma on his brainstem. Jack finished up 48 WEEKS of chemo to treat it about a year ago and had brain surgery at the end of last year - he is one of the bravest, most stubborn #FNF kids you'll ever meet.
NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS and we cannot stop until there is a cure for NF.
