OK folks! This will be year #3 of running in my undies in February with my husband Jack so kids like Jack Burke can grow up happy and healthy! We will be joined again by the crew in the hood for this crazy event that does so much good.
Meet my hero: Jack Burke!
We have been lucky enough to get to know Jack and his wonderful family over the last 5 years. He is a sharp dressing, creative, resilient 12-year-old super hero. He LOVES dressing up, putting on a great haunted house for Halloween, his family and playing with all his buddies. But Jack has something he hates too - he hates Neurofibromatosis - and we're on a mission to help him find a cure!
Jack’s parents had no idea what NF was until his doctor suspected he might have it due to the amount and location of pigmented spots on his body called café-au-lait spots. He was just 1 year old at that time.
Jack-o was officially diagnosed with NF in January 2009 at the age of 2. Upon having a follow up MRI, his family was devastated to learn that he had a type of brain tumor called an optic nerve glioma (a tumor on the nerve that runs from the eye to the brain). Jack completed almost a full year of chemo in 2014 and recently underwent brain surgery to relieve some symptoms. He is truly the bravest person I know.
NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS and we cannot stop until there is a cure for NF.
